Celebrating Annie Walsh’s Creative Arts Residency at Tara Building

1

As Annie Walsh’s Creative Arts Residency comes to an end, we’d like to say a huge thank you for being part of the Tara Building community over the past six months.

During her time here, Annie used the residency to support her work as a freelance filmmaker, developing exciting creative projects while becoming a familiar face around the building.

To mark the end of her residency, we asked Annie a few questions about her experience at Tara Building, what she enjoyed most about her time here, and what she’s been working on over the last six months.

Read on to hear Annie’s reflections on her residency journey.

What did you enjoy most about The Tara Building, or what was your favourite part of being here?

I’ve had such a wonderful time in The Tara Building over the last six months, but the
best part, without a doubt, has been the people I’ve met. Everyone here, from the
staff to its members, are so kind, so generous, and the types of work people do
from Tara is incredible. It’s been such a pleasure getting to know so many on both a
work and personal level.

Would you recommend applying for this residency to other artists and
creatives?

I’d hugely recommend applying for the Creative Art Residency. Having access to
this space as I found my feet as a freelancer for the first time in my career was
invaluable. Being a video editor can be quite lonely at times – you are, quite literally,
nine times out of ten stuck in a room by yourself for hours on end – so being able to
be in a working office again where you’re surrounded by lovely people to talk to
over a coffee or lunch, meet new people at the numerous events organised every
month, or just be in a space where you can lock-in outside of the four walls of your
house, is something I’m hugely grateful for. Big thank you to all my fellow
freelancers I’ve met in here, too. Their advice in navigating this career step has truly
meant the world.

Would you recommend the space for Freelancers and Creatives?

I can’t recommend The Tara Building for freelancers and creatives enough! The
space is beautiful – big, colourful, warm – which in and of itself is great for getting
into the zone. It just breaks up the monotony of working from home every day, as
the flexibility of being able to come in and out on your own accord suits the often
chaotic schedule that comes with being self-employed. It’s also been so great to get
advice and bounce ideas off of some other creatives in here over the last few
months. I think the way The Tara Building champions artists and creativity as a
whole through its events, building design and promotion is something a lot of other
co-working spaces don’t do.
