Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do.
I am an American video editor now living in Dublin. From documentary editing and production, to science educational videos, I work as a partner through all aspects of video production. I specialize in editing and animation, and also work with clients as a creative director and script writer, whether there is already a heap of footage that needs to be created into something cohesive, or just a loose idea for a video to be made. I also work as a producer for the YouTube channel Real Engineering and as the video editor for the fashion brand Maggy London, and am always keen for new projects and opportunities.
What is your favourite fail?
On my first ever filmmaking trip as a student, I went to Borneo to film a documentary about a research initiative there. With a skillset of almost 0, this alone was a questionable decision. But what stands out as one of the larger fails is trekking alone to the top of a hill at night to get phone reception, in a forest full of animals that lie somewhere on the kind-of-dangerous to dangerous spectrum. As I sat blinded by the glow of the phone in my face, I hear distinct footsteps of something coming toward me. In a panic, I flick on my flashlight, to find a large, untrustworthy looking porcupine about 3 feet from me. Are porcupines dangerous? I don’t know. I got up, readying myself to inch around him carefully, and dropped my phone on the ground, startling him – not what I wanted to do. Thankfully this porcupine decided to spare my life that night and scurried away. I left with a new respect for dark, lonely hills in the rainforest at night, and no further knowledge about the threat level of porcupines.
