Hello there! My name is Markus and I am from Germany. Me and my family moved to Dublin in August last year.
In my professional life, I started out as a tropical ecologist and then studied again. Doing so, I converted myself into a film director. I mainly write and direct commercials and corporate films. With three friends I still run a small film production company in my hometown and I work for German agencies as a film director. I am aiming to do the same in Ireland to be able to spend more time here. If you have any advice for me or when you know people in the Irish film industry, I would appreciate it, if you let me know 😉

Five years ago I was failing badly on “good timing”. I agreed to pitch a film concept to a global car company. I picked one of the three available dates (the last one). The pitch was a huge opportunity for me. As it turned out, the day of the pitch was the same day when my son was supposed to be born. And he stuck to it. My partner encouraged me to go for it, anyway. So, I went there and pitched. I had my car parked near the entrance. Just in case. The big topic of the pitch was the question of whether the phone was going to ring and whether I had to start running or not. I finished the presentation, and rushed the 30 KM back to the hospital, not quite on time. Since it took 7 more hours for Fionn to make his appearance. And, lucky me, in the end, I got the project. That’s why I would call this my favourite failure (to plan properly).
